I have been very lucky this year to run Claire Burrell's super talented cocker spaniel, Teasel. Teasel is one of the most phenomenal agility dogs I know - her intensity, focus and intelligence really do amaze me. Teasel won Olympia as a 2 year old with Claire back in 2013, and this year she once again took the title of Olympia Small Winner, only this time with me running her :-P we won both the Jumping Speedstakes and the evening Final. It was a privilege to be able to run Teasel at Olympia - she really is awesome (running out of superlative to describe her :-)) We are next competing at Crufts in the British Open, Singles and Champ.<br />

Saturday was Large 6-7 day and Scandal's last time at Olympia. She is 8 now, and I feel Olympia is so physically demanding of our dogs, that I would never want to run her there and feel I am asking too much of her. I was pleased this year that Lee was judging (we have always done pretty well on his courses ;-)) and also that the rules have changed this year so everyone got at least 2 runs - the morning semi final and either the Jumping or evening Final.<br />
<br />
The morning semi final sort of went to plan - Scandal had the first pole (definitely not in the plan) so we had to go for time to try and get in the top 10. We managed this with an 8th place, and the fastest time overall, so this put us to run 3rd in the final. The final was a pretty testing course and seemed totally different to the course plan we had been studying all afternoon. You get literally about 2 minutes to walk the course (a different course to the one you thought you'd be getting ;-)) so changes to handling plans, and visualisation of this has to happen in doubly quick time. Scandal ran so so beautifully, I really couldn't have asked for any more of her. Unfortunately my legs had totally run out of puff by the time I got to the dogwalk, obstacle number 15 ish, I had pulled a muscle in my quad the day before, and by the Saturday evening it was soooo painful, dosed up on tablets but I think I needed metacam ;-) Scandal just couldn't hear me on the obstacle after the dogwalk, so did the world's widest turn (it felt like that at the time), and we came 2nd, by 0.08, to the incredible Pip (Scandal's cousin) and Lee Windeatt. So happy to have finally got into an Olympia final with Scandal, and she just loved the atmosphere.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Di_elkghEw8/WGa-m57iKOI/AAAAAAAABFs/tShyOPAe61YjrcQ_ROjA89x8i0pAuPdKQCLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Di_elkghEw8/WGa-m57iKOI/AAAAAAAABFs/tShyOPAe61YjrcQ_ROjA89x8i0pAuPdKQCLcB/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
The excitement of Olympia wasn't completely over as, on the Sunday, Lee Windeatt was competing with Scandal's daughter Coy. Coy is a wonderful little girl and Lee has had to work really hard with her and be very patient as she has struggled with hormones and shuts down easily. In the semi final they came 2nd, with Lee doing an 'easy' clear (or that is how it looked!), not pushing, just doing a typical calm Lee clear. I was so excited about watching them in the Final, as I know Coy can be like Scandal, always has that bit extra in the tank for a Final. And they ran... ran like the wind, and won by a good second or two. Clever little superstar Coy :-)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K59gUTibxz4/WGa_VmY8a2I/AAAAAAAABF0/Bt2Z8hoCpPMOa4vp0Gv79QYS2rGLidJ1ACLcB/s1600/IMG_1019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K59gUTibxz4/WGa_VmY8a2I/AAAAAAAABF0/Bt2Z8hoCpPMOa4vp0Gv79QYS2rGLidJ1ACLcB/s320/IMG_1019.JPG" width="256" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And more good news of Scandalbabies... Barrie James' Ru (Mendipstar Rumour Has It) got his final win to grade 7 on the weekend. Can't wait to watch Coy, Ru and Rusty in champ in 2017 :-) <br />

Now we're in to 2016... I don't seem to update this blog any more... a year and a half and no updates...<br />
<br />
So much is going on here, super crazy, and super fun.<br />
<br />
Scandal's been on rest/rehab since her flat tunnel incident at Crufts, she has been out for about 10 weeks in total, hopefully she will be back very soon, I miss running her!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m6k7ZBfYzaA/V2bpjjyekfI/AAAAAAAABD8/Q8BXJFN6oCImszHt4DG7mDe8CbknFNOMgCLcB/s1600/C16-ChF-DSC_3026-%2528ZF-5615-67325-1-001%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m6k7ZBfYzaA/V2bpjjyekfI/AAAAAAAABD8/Q8BXJFN6oCImszHt4DG7mDe8CbknFNOMgCLcB/s400/C16-ChF-DSC_3026-%2528ZF-5615-67325-1-001%2529.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Jed has not done anything since winning Olympia in 2015 (still on a happy cloud about that!) he automatically qualifies for the semis in August, I'm hopeful that if/when a larger minimum distance comes in, I will start working him more again. Watching him run in Denmark last year (5m minimums) was amazing, I am really hopeful that this minimum will come to the UK, now we have concrete research supporting this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-59iSnvTBFKQ/V2bqco0mbII/AAAAAAAABEI/S-0YyY9jN-QAam1n_RwcMGo4lTxgjQZ9gCLcB/s1600/IMG_6308.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-59iSnvTBFKQ/V2bqco0mbII/AAAAAAAABEI/S-0YyY9jN-QAam1n_RwcMGo4lTxgjQZ9gCLcB/s400/IMG_6308.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Crazy little Firework is now 2 years old, she has really matured the last couple of months, I have entered her in a few grade 3 classes over the summer, including some at lower height, which is exciting. She is super keen to work, I just need to train her more :-P<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Tia is now 14, very deaf, and a bit slower, but still happy and loves all her walks. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And last but not least, my new baby, sheltie 'Wow', all the way from Denmark, from Natasha Petrine Gjerulff Jensen, aka Kennel Gjerulff. Wow is now 6.5 months old and the loveliest little puppy... so easy going, LOVES people and dogs, loves coming with us to new places, loves training, loves watching agility... and at the same time, really easy, settles down when I want her to, curls up in her bed and goes to sleep when we're home, I asked a few people if this was normal for a sheltie?! But apparently it is! She came into our lives when she was 4 months and it feels like she's been here forever! </div>

few months… I will do a proper update soon.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">But for now, this post is for Jed… Jed is not
usually in the limelight… in fact for him it’s usually the opposite. So this is
a ‘Jed brag’. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">Jed is now 4, and Garth got him 3 years ago from
Many Tears. Shortly after Garth got him, I took him to Shelley’s lifeskills
classes, aptly named, for Jed, as he had none. He spent most of the hour in the
class in the ‘naughty corner’ or cloakroom, where despite not being able to see
any dogs, just the sound of them walking in the hall was enough to send him
crazy. When it was Jed’s turn, everyone else would find a corner (or nearest
exit!) so Jed could attempt to do what the rest of the class were doing. Jed
wasn’t the best pupil, he usually sent all the cavaletti flying as he bulldozed
through them to try and take a run up at the Labrador in the corner which was
one of the nicest tempered labs I have ever known, he would knock the stools
over that he was supposed to walk across, and just be a total pain (and
embarrassment). I couldn’t even think about letting him off the lead as he
would barely pay any attention to me for more than about 3 steps, so agility at
that point wasn’t even a consideration. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">After about 6 months of attending these classes,
Jed started to settle down, and was able to spend a bit more time in the hall
with the other dogs, rather than spending almost the whole session in the
naughty corner. I did a bit of agility training with him at home, but he was so
clumsy, and very immature, oh and we never quite mastered ‘bring the toy back
and give it to me’ so he either ran off with his ‘prize’ or let me take hold of
it to have a mammoth tug-of-war-shake-my-arm-out-of-its-socket. Eventually we were
able to join Shelley’s outdoor foundation agility classes, and by this time Jed
was able to go off lead for very short periods of time, and it was actually
starting to feel slightly closer to having a ‘normal’ dog. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">Jed started competing in April 2013, only doing
a few shows, as although 2.5 years at this point, he was still very mentally
immature. He won out of grade 3 in July 2013, and then I didn’t do much more
with him as I wanted to keep him in novice.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">So, 2014, and he’s done a total of 10 shows, 2
of them he was only entered in 1 ABC class and most of them I only did a
maximum of 2 classes until August, as his brain couldn’t cope with anything
more. So out of the 10 shows, he has had 14 wins (ok, 7 of them were this
weekend), won out of grade 4, 5 and 6, won at large shows such as Thames, KC
Festival and Chippenham, qualified for the Crufts ABC Final and Novice Olympia
(as well as the ABC Olympia semis, but as he qualified for the Novice first we
had to pull out of ABC).</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">This weekend I wanted to see what he’d be like
running indoors and also over more technical courses than he has been used to.
I haven’t really felt like we have been a partnership, although Chippenham in
October felt better. However as Scandal has been on rest since FCI, the little
training I have done has been spent on Jed, and he has really benefitted from
it, the difference in him is huge. This weekend he had had grade 1-7, 4-7, 5-7
and 6-7 classes, so a real step up for him, as apart from 1-7 ABC, I don’t
think he has ever done a class with grade 6/7 in it. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">The first run we did, Jed wasn’t sure, he tends
to compensate for his unsure-ness by doing a jumping like a pony. But he
listened, nailed a weave entry that my bum totally blocked from his view,
pulled through a tiny tiny tight gap in one of the first pull through’s he has
had to do in the ring, and a lovely running dogwalk 90 degree turn, and won it.
So, 1st run, off to a good start :-) on the first day he won 3
agility classes and 1 jumping. I loved his jumping run, it felt like he was
more settled, his head was lower (rather than prancy pony upright), he was
jumping more extendedly and his weaves were awesome. And by the 3rd
run I was starting to trust him more, and push him, rather than having to be so
cautious. The only thing was he was back to doing slow seesaws – he finds
seesaws hard, but had been a lot more confident on them, until Discover Dogs,
where he got the seesaw totally wrong and ended up falling/panicking/leaping
off it, so was back to doing steady-seesaws this weekend.</span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">Sunday, and he won 2 more agility’s and 1
jumping. He also nailed every weave entry and got a couple of pretty testing
ones, so I was really pleased with that, think it’s the first difficult ones he
has had to do in the ring. Plus I was running him like I would want to run him
in G7, leaving him to do stuff and racing him, which was so much fun, and I
really enjoyed running him. So Jed is now G7, and next year can enter champ. I
am not under any illusions that he will set the champ-world alight, in fact he
will probably only do a couple, under judges who set courses that I think will
suit him. But to think that 3 years ago he wasn’t able to work in a calm
pet-type environment without losing his head, and now this weekend has managed
to keep his head in a far more exciting atmosphere, just makes me very happy
:-) </span><br />

The competition<div class="ecxMsoNormal">

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10.0pt;"></span><span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10.0pt;">We
took Scandal and Fire-work with us, Fire for the socialisation, new
experiences, and also because she is such a happy puppy to have around.
Scandal I entered in the grade 3
and open classes. We had deliberated about bringing Jed but in the end
decided against it for a number of reasons, mainly that I wanted to
concentrate on Scandal with it being so close to EO. In FCI, there are 3
grades, and UK grade 6-7 dogs go into grade
3. Each day we had a grade 3 agility and jumping class plus an open.
There were 5 open classes over the week, and they then take your best 2
agility rounds and best jumping round, to calculate the top 30 large
dogs to go through to the finals at the end of
the week. There were about 270 dogs in the large height.</span>

over there we took the Eurotunnel and drove through the night. Although
most people thought we were crazy, this actually worked really well as
we missed ALL the traffic
and it was a really good journey (well, as much as sitting still for 12
hours can be good). Fire travelled like a little angel and we didn’t
hear a peep out of her. Except on the way back, she seemed to be wide
awake about an hour in to the journey. I thought
she was chewing her kong, so just smiled and carried on re-watching
Scandal’s runs on the video. Turned round to admire my two lovely dogs
and the puppy was busy pulling down the insulation in the van NOOOOOO.
Naughty puppy. A couple of firm ‘No’s’ and she
soon settled down… and then 5 minutes started chewing a hole in the vet
bed (to go with the squirrel size hole she put in Scandal’s special
Union Jack vet bed).</span></span></div>

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">One of the things that FCI people take very seriously is the 'day tenting'. The competitors are allowed onsite to camp from the Saturday. They are not allowed to put up a day tent before 3pm. The day tents are where many of the competitors spend most of the day, with their dogs in puppy pens or cages. At 3pm there is a big race to get the perfect spot. The pitches are all marked out and pretty much all the tents are the same type. It is definitely good if there is a rain shower, or if you want some shade, as you can still watch the rings. You can probably just about make out the large white gazebos towards the main buildings. These are used as shade for the dogs before they run - a really good idea. </span></span></div>

managed to fall in on one of the days trying to reach her ball as she
didn’t want to get out the water to give it to me). The walks were lovely too - nice and flat and woody/sheltered which was good for the dogs.</span></span></div>

<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="padding: 0px;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">About 6 months old (ish) from Many Tears. I was in Swansea on Thursday at the end of May, and then popped up to MT afterwards and Natalie showed me round. We got this cute little puppy out, and played with her in one of the exercise areas, and she ran around with a tennis ball, and didn’t want to be caught.</span></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="padding: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="padding: 0px;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">I thought about her all the way home, all night, and the next day. We picked her up on Saturday. I don’t know why I wanted her, there was just something about her that I fell in love with. She gets on well with all the dogs, she has excellent dog greeting skills and loves playing. She also loves people although at the moment she is quite submissive when she first greets you. Jed actually likes her (an achievement in itself). In fact she and Jed are best buddies. Scandal plays with her too and is very tolerant of her, even letting her take toys out her mouth. My biggest thing was I wanted Scandal to get on with her, Scandal is very much my princess (and she knows it). Scandal now thinks her name is ‘Puppy’ as everytime I say it she flies back as she knows she can get a treat.</span></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="padding: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="padding: 0px;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">So, the puppy is a blank canvas, found wandering the streets of Ireland, and taken to the pound. We know nothing of her history, but some of her behaviours give us some clues as to what she has done as a puppy... i.e. been feral. When we first got her she doesn’t really acknowledge my existence for 99% of the time… and no matter what silly voices I use made a difference. Meanwhile I had the other 5 dogs glued to me all wanting a treat lol. She has definitely got a stubborn streak which she uses when she doesn’t want to do something… e.g. be put on a lead, go in her crate, come back (even when on her flexi lead… if she doesn’t want to come back she just flops down in the grass and refuses to move). I have been hand feeding all her meals, and asking her to do easy things in order to earn them (mainly come back when called). She is a very happy little dog, and is coming out of her shell more each day. Actually in the first week she had doubled in confidence and is getting more crazy each day. She is also very bright and from the little bits of training I have done with her she now offers ‘sit’, and is getting there with left, right, hand touch, jump into her bed, into the cage (she HATED the cage when we got her), paws on wobble cushion (unfortunately I have managed to pair this with ‘bite the wobble cushion’). She (like most puppies) had no manners when it comes to going through gates – all our other dogs wait fairly politely to go through it, but Puppy throws herself at it screaming. She also tries to prop herself up using Scandal’s face in order to try and get closer to me at feeding time… luckily Scandal is being very tolerant :-)</span></span></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="padding: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"></span><span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"></span><span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"></span><span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"></span><span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"></span><span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"></span><span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"></span><span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"></span><span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"></span><span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"></span></span><br />
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="padding: 0px;">

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wQ7C1E5CwH8/U8PqzPXwGPI/AAAAAAAAA-A/vykdZ2fUtlY/s1600/ScanFire.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wQ7C1E5CwH8/U8PqzPXwGPI/AAAAAAAAA-A/vykdZ2fUtlY/s1600/ScanFire.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">She loves toys, particularly balls. At Thames she took great delight in selecting the tennis ball from a trade stand and tried to run off with it. When she first found Scandal’s gym ball under the table there was much barking to try and make it move. She also thinks the wobble cushion is a great toy and proudly picks it up and carries it round with her, which I am trying to discourage (mainly because as soon as Scandal sees it she wants to stand on it). She was a bit scared of cars but just backed off a couple of steps then came forward again, and now she can carry on tugging or waiting for a treat rather than backing off. Loud bangs and thunder don't seem to phase her in the slightest, which is a big relief as Scandal doesn't care either, and I like it that they are both cool with it :-)</span><br />
<br />
So that sums up our first month with her. A couple of weeks after we got her I had her pet passported so she could come to Denmark with us for Dania Cup. I will do a separate post on Dania soon :-)</div>

I have added Jemima's blog to my blog list... I don't necessarily agree with everything she says, but I think it is brilliant that someone has challenged the Kennel Club as strongly as she has done. Agility dogs look so much healthier than many of the dogs that feature on her blog, where droopy eyelids, excess skin, and a squished face are commonplace.<br />

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt;">I had written most of this in January, and
then never got round to posting it, so here goes… I have updated it a bit as it was a few months old. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt;">My main goal for 2013 was to make Scandal up to
Agility Champion, which we did in June. She then won her 4th CC in
July, plus a reserve CC in October, and also had numerous ‘if only’ runs which
although may not have resulted in clear rounds, felt awesome running. She now
has a total of 4 CC’s and 3 reserves, all gained between the age of 2 and 4
years. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt;">Going to the European Open in July was fantastic
and was such a high, I loved the atmosphere at the venue, the team spirit, the
European courses and of course loved taking Scandal – she was so chilled on the
coach and in my hotel room… she seemed to quite enjoy the adventure. After
having Tia who spooks constantly and is scared of most things, it’s so lovely
to take Scandal away and just be able to relax knowing that she can deal with
pretty much anything without freaking out. Even the absolutely HUGE
thunderstorm (and I mean huge… never heard anything like it) wasn’t enough to
worry her, and she does pretty well to ignore me and not get my
terrified-of-thunder-vibes. I love that she has such natural confidence – I see
so many nervy BC’s… Scandal is definitely not one of them. </span></div>

time in December… a momentary lapse of concentration on my part put paid to our
attempts at getting through to the finals, but WOW it felt awesome to be
running Scandals, she was FLYING. Our first show of 2014 was Ribble in February, we just went up for the Olympia qualifier, the rules are different
this year, only 1 semi day rather than 2 to try and qualify for, Scandal did a
beautiful clear round and won the class by over half a second, so has now
qualified for the semis (actually… quarters) in August. Crufts we made the champ final and came 3rd, 0.3 from 1st. That was a lot of fun :)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt;"><br /> Last month Scandal won the ticket at KoF. Honey also won the small ticket on same day. Judge Ian Mallabar. wouldn’t run her any more, she doesn’t really enjoy running for me in the ring,
although training is a different matter and she is C-R-A-Z-Y. So Honey became the
first Agility Champion spaniel in the country, and has now semi-retired from
agility. Honey has run 3 shows with me this year, and won the ticket at KoF, bless her little spaniel-socks. That's it for me running her this year, although she may be making an appearance at 1 or 2 shows with a different handler later in the year...</span></div>

regularly in the summer and I love watching them grow up. I have also been able
to watch videos of them all training which is brill. Ru has had lots of top 10 places and I know the others will be hot on his heels. I am sad that I could not
keep one but it wouldn’t have been the right time with everything that is going
on here. On the plus side, Scandal is very pleased that she remains my
princess. </span></div>

he was totally paralysed I was told that he may only have weeks or even days
left, so a) for him to have recovered and be back to walking 5+ miles a day,
and b) to have ‘made it’ past those initial few weeks just makes me so so
grateful for the extra time that we have had together. He is such a wonderful

<div class="ecxMsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt;">Jedlar… Well, he came out, looking very
immature, at the end of March/beginning of April ‘13, getting a 3rd
in G3 jumping, and having oodles of fun, and looking very immature at the same
time. He showed flashes of greatness and at other times looked like he had
never done any training in his life… He can be a lot of fun, and often has us
in hysterics with his clown antics. And of course, he does drive me nuts, I
have taken him out of more classes than I have any of my other dogs put
together. And then he will put together a simply brilliant run and win. He won out of G3 at Weardale, winning the
class by over a second, and then being 6 seconds faster than 3rd
place. That same weekend I took him out of 3 runs that he did. I didn’t want
him to win out of G3 as he is so gangly and immature, and thought that with his
wide turns and stop seesaw he wouldn’t win, oops. He also qualified for the
Olympia semis and was 3 obstacles from qualifying for Olympia before I pulled
him past a tunnel… Because all year we had been trying to reduce his tunnel
obsession, and by August he had finally learnt that ‘here’ meant ‘stay with me
and don’t take any obstacles <i>(tunnels
included) </i>unless I tell you to’ which he obediently put into practice in
the semi. Another Jed-highlight was Imogen doing her first run with him at
Gillingham in September and coming 9th in G4 jumping. Jed is uber
polite when Imogen runs him… not sure how long that will last lol. I don’t have
any big plans for Jed. Getting him in the ring was a lot more than most people
thought we would achieve. He is just my ‘fun dog’ and anything we achieve along
the way is the icing on the cake. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">
</span><br />
<div class="ecxMsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="ecxMsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 10pt;">Garth started taking Jed to Lowri’s in Wales at
the end of 2013, and we have now changed his diet and a few other things and
have seen a lot of changes in Jed (including lovelyyyyy relaxed calm boy for
the few days after he has had acupuncture). I have just started bringing him
back to agility and he has matured a lot since last year, and is also becoming
more thoughtful when I am working him, thinking about what I am saying rather
than taking the thing he would most like to do… ‘tunnel? Did anyone say tunnel?
That one right in the far corner?’ Jed has just done two runs this year, one of them he won, qualifying for the Olympia ABC semis. He has some more runs coming up at the end of May onwards... will be interesting to see how he does :)</span></div>

I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas. We have had a week off and go back on the 2nd. Lovely to have time to chill and catch up with family and friends I don't see very often. <br />
<br />
Scandal has enjoyed being spoilt and even had time for a spot of dusting, see above photo. She is such a funny, tolerant girl. I have clearly got a ridiculous sense of humour as taking this photo I was pretty much crying with laughter. Scandal just goes along with it patiently, which cracks me up even more.<br />
<br />
Olympia has come and gone, I was thrilled with how Scandal worked, definitely the most confident out of the 3 years we have been. She *just* put an extra jump in... which my boss at work pointed out perhaps we should have got bonus points for ;-)<br />
<br />
We have been playing around with teaching ketschkers over the past couple of months. I went to a Lisa Frick camp in June which was brilliant. I can't say I will be changing overnight to this type of handling, and I didn't put it in the ring in 2013 as I think it should be taught properly first. I don't think ketschkers are always necessary, and have certainly seen a humongous amount of terrible ones done in the ring this year (of course an equal amount of front crosses, but I have just been looking out for the ketschkers ;-)) however there are a couple of scenarios which I think this handling really suits and benefits the dog, so I have decided to teach it with Jed and then I can use it in the ring if I think it's suitable on a particular course. I love teaching the dogs new stuff, so this is FUN :-)<br />
<br />
Scandal thinks this is a great new trick and picked it up very quickly, although only in the house with no equipment. Jedlar got the gist of it but unfortunately we also taught him the 'startline setup' involving circling you and then coming through your legs from behind. So sometimes he offers this instead, and headbutts me in the back of my legs. Jed's head is like concrete, so it's not the nicest of pains... hopefully he will work it out quite soon ;-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-evY1vKHc9LY/UsCQQneDqhI/AAAAAAAAA7A/upj5DRSGtIM/s1600/DSC_0045.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-evY1vKHc9LY/UsCQQneDqhI/AAAAAAAAA7A/upj5DRSGtIM/s320/DSC_0045.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Scandal went to Lowri at the beginning of December and she was all good. Jed also went. I have been dreading Jed going as he flings his body all over the place, he is a total bull-in-a-china-shop dog and doesn't do things by halves. So I was a bit scared that Lowri might say he was totally broken... as usual this was a slight overreaction from me and Jed wasn't too bad :-) Accupuncture, massage, and water physio later and he is looking much better and we have just started some gentle training again. He has really matured in the last 6 months and I can't wait to compete with him next year. <br />
<br />
Honeyspaniel is still... Honey. It is strange that she is now 7, I still think of her as about 3 years old. Imogen has been doing little bits of training and they had a 2nd in grade 7 agility at Clevedon show a couple of weeks back. I got invited onto the squad with her which I was really chuffed with, but declined it as I haven't worked her since May when she got her 3rd CC :-) I am tempted to do one or two shows with her next year just for fun-ness.... maybeeeee.... we shall see :-)<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
5 years has really flown by... this time 5 years ago I was all in a pickle because there were only 2 girls born in Ruby's litter of 8, and one of those girls was a tri, with a brown leg. I wanted a red and white girl with two white legs, leaving only 1 girl to choose from! I spent hours at Jackie and Ant's each week, watching the puppies growing up. My head was saying the red and white girl, after all I didn't like tri's, and I definitely didn't want one with a brown leg.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9XSguCvOZPY/UqDoVYNvNmI/AAAAAAAAA58/3nTXApA7PXc/s1600/FAV9finish.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9XSguCvOZPY/UqDoVYNvNmI/AAAAAAAAA58/3nTXApA7PXc/s320/FAV9finish.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
However my heart was saying the naughty tri colour, who's puppy name was "Big Bertha". She was double trouble, always into mischief, loved playing, and was soooo inquisitive. I had wanted the puppy's name to begin with an 'S', and had, for many months, decided it would be Summer. However, this naughty tri-colour just didn't suit the name Summer, she was far too naughty. She was a MONSTER... and so the name Scandal (or Scandalsaurus) seemed more suited.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zA_w1YFUSfQ/UqDobDUm77I/AAAAAAAAA6I/5XVN-0zfreM/s1600/FAV27finish.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zA_w1YFUSfQ/UqDobDUm77I/AAAAAAAAA6I/5XVN-0zfreM/s320/FAV27finish.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
It was very odd at first having a puppy in the house again. By this point Ricky was almost 10, and Tia was 6 going on 7, and as Tia was my sister's until a year old I didn't do any of her training until she was over a year old. So, it felt as if I hadn't had a puppy for 10 years, and when I had Ricky, I was 10, and had NO CLUE about dog training, and couldn't really remember what I did with him anyway. Scandal landed on her feet and acted as if she had always been here.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7UIVRYey0xQ/UqDqQBZ5dzI/AAAAAAAAA6U/diRlnDMTExI/s1600/M1ZTNWT8AzRi112tnhFRaaX5OyLD6CdXHj-MFlF7qiA.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7UIVRYey0xQ/UqDqQBZ5dzI/AAAAAAAAA6U/diRlnDMTExI/s320/M1ZTNWT8AzRi112tnhFRaaX5OyLD6CdXHj-MFlF7qiA.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So.... 5 years later... I am so proud of what we have achieved... having the most amazing journey, each year just seems to get better and better :-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wSsr9YveTeo/UqDq453qN4I/AAAAAAAAA6g/FLpJQhENL9g/s1600/DSC_0035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wSsr9YveTeo/UqDq453qN4I/AAAAAAAAA6g/FLpJQhENL9g/s320/DSC_0035.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Scandal is very patient at having her photo taken... but sometime she does seem to get a little bored of it ;-) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-99CpmAoB1ro/UqDqO8KBzdI/AAAAAAAAA6Q/Fw4853La-Lk/s1600/DSC_0037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-99CpmAoB1ro/UqDqO8KBzdI/AAAAAAAAA6Q/Fw4853La-Lk/s320/DSC_0037.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

I’ll start with Lansdown…<br />
<br />
I didn’t do Newton Heath for a number of reasons so Lansdown was our first show for 3 weeks. Scandal had a 3rd and 6th. Honey had a 6th in the Crufts Singles with Imogen. Tia loved doing anysize with Imogen, and got e’d as she couldn’t resist a goooooo tunnel.<br />
<br />
Jed… was a total star! He seemed to gain in confidence overnight from Saturday to Sunday. In the main he can still be very distracted when he’s competing and I often feel his attention wander numerous times round a course… he is very immature, but already much better than when he started. He is still quite anxious on the startline with other dogs behind him, especially if they are barking and lunging. I try and lead out as quickly as possible as he holds such a good wait, even though he keeps checking behind him that he’s not about to get attacked.
Novice Olympia, 265 dogs, he went clear and came 6th :-) a second off the winner, and half a second from a qualifying place, which I was super chuffed with! Then his ABC Olympia, 233 dogs, again he went clear and came 4th! Top 4 qualify, so Jed is going to the Olympia semis! This was his 8th show, and most of the dogs in the top 10 were grade 6 or 7, so I was really pleased with his place.<br />
<br />
The following weekend at Tuffsbury he brought me back down to earth by being taken out of 4 out of 6 runs, all for different things! I know people say dogs aren’t deliberately naughty, but I am sure that doesn’t apply to Jed ;-) and it reminds me why I want him firmly in grade 3 for a lot longer! Ignoring me on his dw when I cued a turn, using the seesaw as a launch pad, unable to weave, and flying over the apex of the aframe all got him swiftly exited from the ring.<br />
<br />
Scandal was a good girl making the champ final with a 2nd in G7 agility, and made the champ final, which I won’t go into detail on lol…
On to Rugby, Scandal had a lovely run in the Olympia qualifier but took a pole 3 from the end. Again she qualified for the champ final but got marked on her dogwalk. I am 100% convinced she got it, but heyho it happens… amplifies the need for an up contact judge IMO so the judge isn’t expected to judge two ends of a 36foot plank in under 2 secs!<br />
<br />
Jedlar was fabulous, with a 5th and 6th in G3 jumping, and did a beautiful run in the CSJ qualifier, apart from jumping out of his skin at the judge who was racing alongside him on the dw, and he fell off. His other runs were all good with just a pole in his G3 agility… can’t actually remember the other runs, just that he felt gooood :) <br />
<br />
And finally on to Weardale, our last show before EO. Scandal had two clears in the champ jumping/agility, which put her to run near the end in the champ final. I’d seen Chris Cole and Lauren do lovely clears, so knew it would be an ‘all or nothing’ run and it was. Scandal won by about half a second, so now has CC number 4! I just did a short course in the 6-7 agility so I could train her seesaw and dogwalk, which she did perfectly. The following day I just did the Olympia qualifier, one of the only courses I have run this year that actually resembled Olympia, thank you Toni Dawkins! And Scandals went clear and won that too, wooo!<br />
<iframe width="425" height="344" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/eB5WC8dHrKE?list=UUxks2GJOu-Vgpo1JJ0lWDJg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
<br />
<br />
Jed……. Saturday he acted like he had never done agility before, looking around, and just being useless in general. Sunday he pulled his socks up and won G3 agility, with a stop seesaw, by 1.5 secs… and was SEVEN SECONDS faster than 3rd. I obviously wish I had held my seesaw for longer, as he is not ready for G4, but had the 2nd place not been clear, I’d have had a job holding him for 7 secs… he’d have wandered off lol. Now I can see why some people just do a different course rather than having to hold contacts for ages.<br />
<br />
Then it was EO, which I will talk about in a separate post. The following weekend I had just entered Jed and Honey at Diamond, as Imogen was hoping to be able to do the show and run Honey, but it wasn’t to be. So we left Honey at home as it was only a local one. Jed got taken out of his first run on the Saturday, and then bucked his ideas up winning G3 agility by a second, again with a held seesaw. He did a nice jumping run apart from wanting to miss a jump out.
The following day I just did two runs with him. The first he was great, just took a pole, but ran really well. The second one he was super distracted and at one point trotted off looking for Garth, lol. I think he made it to number 14 before finally being taken out of the ring. Out of G3 with a bang…. Ahhhhh. I may be alone in thinking this, but I do think all grades 2-6 need to be changed to ‘3 wins, at least one of which must be agility’, to prevent flukey dogs getting the win to take them straight into the next grade (although maybe some owners don’t mind this). It still amazes me that he doesn't actually have to even DO an agility class, let alone win one, until grade 5.
Anyway, enough on that. I will upload some videos and put them on here 'soon', however 'soon' that is ;-)

<span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;">OMG. <span style="color: red;">Agility Champion Rujaff Red Hot Scandal. </span></span></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;">Just
so happy. I can’t believe we have done it. She debuted at Hinckley show
at exactly 18 months old, 3 years ago. I always love Hinckley show.
Only 5 rings so fairly small, loads of qualifiers, and the biggest champ
entry I have seen this year (156 dogs). She was 11th in the champ agility, clear in the champ jumping, although I don’t know where she finished. We qualified in 5th place so she ran 16th
out of 20. I knew there had been several clear rounds. The only dog I
watched was Dave and Boss. Boss has been putting some amazing times in,
so I wanted to see his run. I say I watched his run, but that was from a
distance, as Garth wasn’t at the show, so I had to deal with a crazy
Scandal who was taking it in turns to a) chew my fingers off for her
Chihuahua food, and b) bark and jump about and try and drag me to the
ring. Boss did a lovely clear round in 35.something. So I knew it was
going to be an all or nothing run in order to beat him. Which I prefer.
All or nothing runs are the best.</span></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;">I
love champ finals with Scandal. She runs differently, she knows it’s a
final (ok… maybe she doesn’t know it’s a final, but she knows it’s
important :)). She saves all her extra speed up for them. I liked the
course. Hard, and a few things to work extra hard on, plus it had some
big distances in there, which suits Scandal down to the ground.</span></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;">She
was awesome. She went round in 34.something (so I’m told, I have no
idea myself) about a second off of Dave’s time, and went in to the lead.
Again, so I was told, coz I had no clue of ANYTHING, I had been soooo
focussed on Scandal. There were 4 more dogs to run after us, and then
Greg was running 19th and 20th. He messed up with
his first dog, so it was all on the second. They (so I’m told, lol) went
round in 36.something, which meant SCANDALSAURUS WON HER THIRD
CHAMPIONSHIP. Woah, over a week later and I’m still bouncing around on
cloud nine. We’ve achieved 2 out of 3 of our goals this year, the third
one was related to Crufts 13 and we part achieved it, and took a tonne
of experience home with us. </span></div>

<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;">Now
we have a couple of weeks off, lots of time to reflect, and then get
more excited about the European Championships which are in 7 weeks time!
I can’t wait to go out there, I have asked Scandal and she said she is
looking forward to it too. </span></div>

<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;">She
won 4 of her classes of Kernow, then two weeks later we had a good time
at Scunthorpe, lovely run in the champ final until I got her e’d two
from the end as she went in the tunnel instead of up the dogwalk as I
didn’t handle the sequence properly. GRRR. Went
to Kingdom of Fife the following day and had an awful run in the champ jumping, I think we were e’d by
number 6 when Scandal nearly took my legs out to go into a tunnel, so I
took her out. Champ agility she won, Bonny Quick had done a lovely round
with Ivy, her young dog, who has stunning running contacts, so I knew
it would have to be an all out run, and it was… good Scandalbeans. </span></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="344" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/PXejP7b5-uk?list=UUxks2GJOu-Vgpo1JJ0lWDJg" width="425"></iframe>
</div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;">The
following weekend we had the EO qualifiers and we had a great time.
Scandal won the second round, had the best time in team agility and our
team won too. The following day she had a 4th and then we
made mistakes in the next two runs. Very happy to say that we have been
chosen to be a part of Team GB to go to the European Open in Belgium in
July! </span></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;">We
had a break the weekend after the EO qualifiers and then on to one day
of Woodside. I’m trying to do the shows that I really enjoy doing, even
if they are further away, rather than just doing a show every single
week. I find it interesting that as Scandal has matured, she is more in
tune with what I am feeling. I find it amazing that a dog knows
stress/pressure, even if we don’t think we’re showing it. After
Scunnie/KoF/EO Q’s, where I felt that Scandal was simmering and I was
just about able to keep the lid on her, I decided that I needed to get
some control back, and Scandal did perfect startline waits in all 3 runs
(no crouching/leaning forward which she was doing a lot at EO
qualifiers), and in her champ agility she stopped (albeit briefly) on
her dogwalk and again on her seesaw. She was 4th in this. She was then 4th in champ jumping too, which put her through to the champ final running 18th.
They ran the heights small-medium-large so I was on a complete high
from having just made up Honey to Ag Ch. Jess Clarehugh and Cara were running 16th
and had done a stunning clear round, so I knew it was an all-or-nothing
run. Scandal went clear, but then no one knew whether Scandal or Cara
were leading, as both had gone round in 34.8.. Alan Short and Bruce was
running 19th and went clear but was about half a second
slower, and then Jacqui Tarn (and Becca?) ran last but got e’d. It ended
up that Scandal had just pipped Cara’s time, in 34.807 compared to
Cara’s time of 34.863 (I think it was 3), so Scandal won her second
ticket! Hooray! We have had a few weeks break and our next show is this weekend at Nottingham, followed by the Team GB training day on bank holiday Monday at Nottingham Trent Uni. And I now don't have work until Tuesday, woohoo. </span></div>

I have a couple of weeks break and no shows until Nottingham… I wish I could say I will enjoy lounging around doing nothing; instead I will be spending every spare minute studying for my exams which are less than a week away......<br />
<br />
I have kind of given up blogging… I just don’t have time. And then I think 'ohhh I really want to mention that' and then don't mention it until about 2 months too late.<br />
<br />
Honey is now Agility Champion Ochtertyre Bonnie Heather. I decided early on this year that I would only be entering her in champ classes in Scotland. We always joke that Honey knows she’s back in the country she was born in and always runs differently (i.e. much better) up there. I know that Honey doesn’t respond well to pressure (unlike Scandal who seems to rise to the occasion) and the more pressure I put on Honey the slower she goes, however when we get to Scotland she is just different. Excited even before we get to the show. So I only entered her in three shows across March – June; Kernow (ok, not a champ show, but Honey always goes crazy at this show), Kingdom of Fife and Woodside.<br />
<br />
As predicted, Kernow she was pretty crazy in the two classes we did and got E’d lol. I actually love it when Honey gets eliminated like this as it’s from her craziness and me not being able to be quick enough to respond to it… I’d rather get eliminated like that any day than get a painfully slow clear. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to communicate this message across to Honey.<br />
<br />
I have changed my warm up routine with her - I have tried most things, but it seemed the more I did with her had the opposite effect… she would play happily before her run and then meander round the course completely uninterested. At Kernow 2012 I couldn’t be bothered to do any of that and Honey absolutely flew round and won her classes. Laura suggested that maybe I was stressing Honey out through my attempts to get her excited. I kept this in mind but was convinced that she needed to be wound up and Kernow was simply a fluke and Honey must have been in a funny mood that weekend.<br />
<br />
So this year, we got Crufts out the way (again Honey not particularly interested, in fact one person thought she was injured as she was so slow – they clearly didn’t see her training 2 days before when she was screaming round the course as fast as her little ginger legs could go!), and then it was on to the three shows, one in March, April and May, before she had a couple of months off.<br />
<br />
Kernow we just did two runs but she ran beautifully (albeit E’s). Kingdom of Fife the champ jumping was *very* hard and she managed a fairly scrappy clear. Champ agility was a fast and more open course and Honey decided this was right up her street and won it. Champ final she again was running really well and then towards the end decided to cut behind me to ADD in a jump. Honey NEVER adds in jumps… she usually goes out of her way to miss them out. But it was nice that she was running so well.<br />
<br />
On to Woodside – I loved this show last year and couldn’t wait to go back. Again I didn’t play with Honey in the queue – Garth warmed her up for me just by walking her around, we kept her away from the ring and then I took her when there were two dogs to go. This seemed to work perfectly as a) I wasn’t stressed as I was in Scotland = CHILLL, and b) any subsconscious vibes would hopefully not have too long to be transmitted to spanielly. Honey started off well by winning the champ agility by two seconds. She was then 2nd in the champ jumping, 0.1 off the winner. This put her to run last in the champ final. Once I had convinced her to actually do a start line wait (glad they weren’t judging to FCI rules… we’d have been eliminated before we got off the startline ;-)) she ran well, and started to do a huffy-squeak half way round. Actually, how she ran the 2nd half of the course wasn’t<br />
far off what I get from her in training. She won the final by quite a way, giving her her third challenge certificate and making her up to Agility Champion! Soooo Honey now gets to retire from having to run with me. Lucky spaniel. Imogen will be running her in the shows we can get her to, although not sure yet which ones they will be. I will be able to put my time into Scandal and Jed, poor Jed has taken a bit of a back seat in the last month, and he gets SO excited when we get to a show and he thinks he might actually get to run.<br />
<br />
Here are Honey's run from Woodside...
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="344" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/WPndW9Ui_zw?list=UUxks2GJOu-Vgpo1JJ0lWDJg" width="425"></iframe><br />
Honey has also made breed history by becoming the first agility champion cocker spaniel, I know there are quite a few spaniels on 1 or 2 CC’s but none have actually been made up to agility champion.<br />
<br />
I must say a very big thank you to Imogen for letting me run Honey. Honey was Imogen’s first dog and together they went from grade 1 to grade 7, before Imi had to move 200 miles away, and very kindly let me run her. Hopefully Imi can get lots of training in when she comes up to stay with us in the holidays and will be ready to do some more champ classes.

thought Jed deserved his own post. At the end of March we went down to
Kernow, one of my favourite shows of the year. Jed has come on a lot
over the winter and so I decided Kernow would be a good first show for
him to do. The only thing is he is still very green and I haven’t been
able to train him as much as I’d hoped – in the last couple of months
he’s only had 1 training session a week… not really ideal for teaching
his contacts.</span><br />
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;">He
had a great time… only knocked 1 pole all weekend over 6 runs, which is
great considering when he was first learning to jump and had no idea of
how his legs worked he used to plough through jumps, breaking the
entire cup/wing on more than one occasion. He even managed a clear round
in G3 jumping and came 3rd. </span></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="344" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Ue6rvziu6Iw?list=UUxks2GJOu-Vgpo1JJ0lWDJg" width="425"></iframe>
</div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;">He
absolutely LOVES running, but you can see from the videos he’s used to
only doing short sequences… in the 3-5 agility he did tunnel-jump
towards the score tent and then went ‘where’s my toy, where’s my toy’,
then I got him back and we carried on and did jump dogwalk, and then he
did ‘where’s my toy’ again. And in his G3 jumping he went through the
tunnel straight towards the startline ‘where’s my toyyyyy’ and bless him
had to slam on his breaks when he FINALLY realised I was calling him.
Anyone would think he was obsessed with his toy ;-)</span></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="ecxMsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;">Two
weeks later and another weekend of competing. He did a
total of 4 runs over the two days and had 3 clears! His first run was
1-3 agility, he was good but didn’t wait on his seesaw, he went on to do
the next jump and then realised he was meant to have stopped and came
running back pulled it back down and sat at the bottom bless him. Then
his next run was another 1-3 agility, he did a beautiful running DW and
AF, and a very good stop on his seesaw, and came 5th </span><span style="font-family: Wingdings; font-size: 10pt;">J</span><span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Wingdings;">:-)</span> then his next class was G3 jumping and I hadn’t walked the course, so he had a wide turn but still came 8th. The following day he just had one run, G1-3 jumping, and did another clear, and this time won it by over a second </span><span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif';">:-)</span><span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; font-size: 10pt;">
he is SO much fun to run, a massive big goofball but tries his heart
out to get it right. He’s still doing a few jumps goofily, but this is
settling down, and I know it’s just because he’s trying extra hard to
jump, rather than plough through, which is most appreciated ;-) </span></div>

Two months in to 2013 already. AHHHHHHH.<br />
<br />
Life is great, and very very busy. Rix had his 14th birthday last week. Ahhhhh. Love him.<br />
<br />
Scandal and Honey are looking good. I did realise last weekend that it was only 3 weeks until Crufts and Honey hadn't had any training since before Christmas. Luckily Imogen has been staying with us this week and has done some training with Honey (which Honey clearly enjoys FAR more than training with me ;)). Seems that Honey has enjoyed the break and is keen to be back. I'm loving Scandal being back at training, she is so easy to handle... she's perfect :) <br />
<br />
Jed is now KC registered and I've entered him in his first KC show *faints*. His attitude towards training is superb, and he is now gaining control of his long legs, although I do feel that I am handling a pony rather than a 'normal size' dog... he is huge. He has filled out a lot now, and has put back on all the weight he lost in the autumn. <br />
<br />
And finally, some pictures of the pups at 4 months old. I LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing all the lovely photos of them enjoying life with their new owners... thank you for all the updates :) last week 5 of the pups met up for a play at Lee's field. Here are some of the photos (plus one of Ru too, as he is beautifulllll).<br />

The more people who add their dogs to this, the more information we will have when breeding our dogs. It is such a taboo subject, I only wish people felt they could discuss it more openly.<br />
The link to the database is here: <a href="http://pbhfbcfittingdb.yolasite.com/" target="_blank">UK Border Collie Fitting Database</a>Charhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14026319372468371224noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1413745523632666821.post-66339684408601925822012-12-28T07:42:00.002-08:002012-12-28T07:42:56.141-08:00How cute...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I knew I would have a busy couple of months and I probably wouldn't update my blog for a while but nearly 3 months... slightly longer than intended.<br />
<br />
The puppies are now all settled in their lovely new homes. I couldn't have asked for more lovely people to take care of my babies, I was so proud as each puppy went off with their new owner. Scandal was amazing throughout the whole thing, and I would love to repeat the mating in the future and keep a puppy - I would have loved to keep one this time round but with Scandal only being 4, and 'life' being pretty busy right now, I didn't think it would be fair on the pup or the other dogs to keep one. I tried to raise the puppies as I would if I was keeping one for myself, so they met lots of people, had lots of toys to keep them entertained, had lots of surfaces to run on (and attempt to use as tuggies), met the other dogs (they all loved Rix), met the cows, watched the tractors, and of course met lots of people. I think they were pretty confident (very naughty) little pups by the time they left. <br />
<br />
I have loved getting 'pupdates' from the new owners on how the pups are all getting on in their new adventures. <br />
<br />
The puppies are now coming up to 11 weeks. Here are a few pictures of them at 7 weeks. I will do another update with some more recent photos of a few of them. <br />
